I replaced some working outlets in a room . Cut the breaker off, replace the outlets with new ones now they don't work . 3 on one wall work the other 3 don't. The breaker didn't trip . I checked the connections , all were good . I even hooked the old outlets back and still not working. Bought a non contact voltage tester . No power going to any of the 3 plugs . Anything else I can check before calling a professional?

.

I'd make sure the breaker in question really powers those outlets.

And double check the splices behind all of the outlets, sometimes depending on their age, they're questionable. Most just need good tightening.

As you've discovered, wall sockets in most houses are daisy-chained from the breaker. If one is improperly connected, all the downstream ones will be dead.

Check the connection at each working socket, and you will likely find an outbound connection that's faulty. A hint: sockets are not always wired in a logical sequence since the electrician had access to the bare bones of the house when they were wired. So the actual pattern might jump around the "linear" arrangement of the outlets.

Nice if you do enough electrical work, especially on a variety of buildings, but my #1 rule here has been to map my breakers in a new house as soon as I can, especially before furniture is moved in and placed. Takes no more than an hour and is free. Solves a ton of headaches down the road when you have fixtures powered off an unsuspected breaker (a living room closet light connected to the adjacent master bedroom, etc.)

If they were all working before you did the change- I'd be quite certain that you wired the last working receptacle wrong making the last three inoperative.

If all of the wiring is correct, then there's a possibility that the tab is broken on the last working receptacle.

I have enough trouble busting those when I mean to.

But yeah, this is a matter of checking BOTH sets of terminals for heat on each working socket. Bet one wooden nickel there's a dead outbound on one.
