Google water heater manufacturers.

It shows that there are only a few manufacturers, but many brand names.

True. Local water heater manufacturer has an assembly line that drops a different jacket/retail name over the exact same tank.

Or a "cold water heater."

I’ve used Kenmores insulated water heaters for years. Never a problem. More than likely made by AO Smith but a good warranty- 12 years on the model I currently have. Been in operation 8 years thus far.

I know whatever plumber I have do the job will have his own preferred brand but looking for any experience y'all have. I am in Central Maryland and do not have access to Natural Gas. There is plenty of space in the basement where it is located so the increased size of newer ones shouldn't be a problem (But will check before the job begins)
Thanks
I don't know, sometimes I think it doesn't matter, really. They all last just about as long they have warranty.
I probably wouldn't bother and just buy whatever is cheap, because I noticed - cheap or expensive and fancy - they all last about 6-8 years, only ...

So true. Back when we built a house in 1999 I installed a Rheem propane gas water heater. Expensive!! It lasted 5 years when it sprung a leak. We swapped it out with an electric Kenmore. Electric and propane prices were both high, but the cost of the electric water heater was almost half that of a gas fired puppy.

Plus I can swap out an electric water heater in a jiffy.

I have an American Pro Line 50 gal electric WH that was installed 20 years ago and hasn't given me any trouble.

Whatever brand you consider make sure you read reviews.

Since yours has lasted 23 years why not just consider the same brand?
