A simple water test with a garden hose will show...
LOL!!! I've been on enough leak hunts to last a life time- that statement couldn't be further from the truth! Done plenty- can't find a thing. It rains, and the phone call comes! WTF!
Most of those were eventually tracked down "camping out in the attic" when we knew there was significant rain coming- and most of those were "other than roof penetrations" AND usually a significant distance from the actual point of appearance.

For some reason, the old hillbilly maxim came to mind: "When it don't rain, roof don't leak. When it rains, can't go up and fix it nohow."
It doesn't appear to apply here, but one cause of roof leaks on a new roof is if there have not been enough warm/hot days for asphalt shingles to melt-glue into place. IOW, a big storm right after a roof install and a stretch of cool weather could blow water under the unsealed edges.

Sorry about that, perhaps I’ve just had good luck with finding them over the years..!
We put on a completely new roof a couple of years ago, which soon leaked around some improperly installed flashing. Our attorneys name and phone number sent to the roofers soon solved the problem.

Why did it require mentioning your attorney? Did they not stand behind their installation? My roof install has a 10 year labor/workmanship warranty by the shingle company - enforced by holding the certified roofer accountable for fixing defects.

The roofer would only be responsible for his portion of the roof and scope of work that was a part of his contract. If a deficient masonry chimney, or similar structure is the cause of the leak, it would not be the roofers responsibility. He should however, be able to identify the cause of the leak and bring it to the attention of the homeowner.
Regarding shingle manufactures, their warranty is for product only, not installation.

Good point about cause.
OC Preferred Protection if you use their system by a preferred or platinum installer provides 10 years on workmanship.

Same here. I just put a new roof on my garage, and the roofer guarantees workmanship for a period of ten years from the date of completion. He also includes an annual fall maintenance inspection for the first five years after replacement at no charge. These are probably some of the reasons the company is booked up almost a year in advance!

That's rapidly changing. We were offered an exclusive agreement with GAF a year or so ago that would have allowed us to sell their shingles with a warranty that covered shingles, accessories, and labor. And it was for full replacement for something like 30 years, and fully transferable. We ultimately had to pass because we would have been required to make an initial purchase of about a 2-1/2 year supply of shingles which we couldn't justify at the time.
Had we known we were going to get hit with two major hail storms within a year we probably would have pulled the trigger.
