After prorating you should be able to buy a box of roofing nails with the settlement money.


Insurance companys are not in business to replace worn out roofs, lots of luck trying to come close to breaking even.
Unless you have Replacement Cost as the loss settlement provision. Yes, you pay more on an annual basis, but you get actual coverage.

True. We have replacement coverage on our 19 year old roof and a new one is going on next week for $1,000 out of pocket (deductible). The rest ($27k) is being paid for by insurance company.

Thanks for the responses.

And Kevin, we have Replacement Cost, and yes, the thirty year old roof is being replaced as a result of hail damage.
