I need a new mattress and can't decide between a regular or foam mattress. Are foam mattresses that more comfortable? Are they hotter in the winter?
Any advice is appreciated.
I've had both kinds. My back thinks a good form mattress is better than a good regular spring mattress, and I always listen to my back. I currently have a Casper mattress and love it.
However, memory foam mattresses are good. I generally prefer gel topped memory foam mattresses as the memory foam isn't as breathable, thus making it hotter. Gel is generally pretty expensive though, so I went with pillow top 3in memory foam 6 in. There's also density to consider. Medium, low, high density.
After years of good mattresses, I detest spring mattresses. They hurt my back pretty bad.
Try that new purple mattress, i hear a lot of positive feedback and i believe you can return it on their dime if you do not like it. I have an S&F adjustable base Hybrid foam/spring mattress with with the top layer being cooling gel foam and we all love it.
I have a foam mattress that I got from a groupon several years ago. I like it but it took some serious breaking in. I didn't pay a lot for it(it was from some random company called zen garden or something like that). I had a serious crick in my neck for a week or so when I first got it and then I rotated it just a few weeks ago and experienced that again.
So don't be cheap when you get one. My groupon was like $400 for the queen, so I think I got what I paid for.
I don't like foam mattresses. After someone gave me I had to go back to regular mattress. Several years ago I used to have a Select Comfort air mattress which was very comfortable.
I've had a memory foam mattress for about 8 months now and I absolutely love it. For $800 for a King size (which I think is a great price) its so much more comfortable than the $2000+ spring mattress I previously had. It's supportive and somehow both firm and soft at the same time...never going back.
