I don't know what to do. I have carpenter ants nesting in my dishwasher door. I can see them coming out of the lock mechanism when I open the dishwasher door and it's big ones and babies so they must have a nest in there. I know carpenter ants eat wood so I don't know if they're using the wires from the door to get to the wood in my walls. Can I handle this myself by putting a kill bait in the dishwasher, or should I get an exterminator? I don't know how that would work since in they're in the dishwasher..

I'm at a loss with this..

More likely that the carpenter ants got to the dishwasher FROM the wooden structure of the house, not vice versa. You'll need an exterminator. The ants you see are just a fraction of the whole colony.

They might be in the insulation around the dishwasher. You need carpenter ant bait. The stuff I used was called, Advanced Carpenter Ant Bait and I ordered it on Amazon. I had a sheet of foam board in our barn and it was stored up high. I could hear the ants chewing the foam when I was standing at the entrance. I walked to the back and the chewed up foam was lightly raining down. Had them in the house as well and the granular carpenter ant bait took care of them, but it took a while. The were in the ceiling.

I don't think carpenter ants are starting or stopping with the dishwasher door. I think you better bring in a pro to really figure out the extent of the problem, and the cure.

Best remedy for such... my husbands homemade recipe.

One part Borax, one part granulated sugar or confectioners sugar.

Mix together, spoon out, carpenter ants be-gone! And quick, too!

Hopefully, they're not building a house in there!

("Carpenter ants"- yeah, I couldn't resist!)

I'd call a professional before I'd put anything poisonous in a dishwasher.

I was hoping to tape a kill bait in the dishwasher so they could bring the poison back to the nest, but I used the dishwasher yesterday and I haven't seen any ants at all now. So, I either killed this nest, or they ran for the hills when the heat of the dishwasher came on.

I'm guess I'm going to have to get an exterminator and see if he can find out where they're coming from.

Does anyone know how they exterminate for carpenter ants or what it involves?
