I have a 10 y.o. nat. gas Rheem water heater with 2 anode rods. I looked up the model #, & it was sold as a 6 yr. water heater. I have a plumber coming soon to do some other things & I'm wondering if this makes sense to do while they're here. (I haven't asked him about this yet).

And/or get them to install a Taco Leakbreaker--anyone here have experience with those?

Option 3 of course is to get them to replace the (working) water heater. But for all I know it could last another 5 years(?). He told me over the phone it'd be $1500 for a 6 yr. 40 gallon Bradford White (that only costs $583). But I'm not sure if they did it as the same time as the other work if it'd just be the price of the heater + their time--I need to find out.

Any advice? There was a recent thread here about people replacing water heaters--one guy had a 20 yr. old one that worked he was going to replace.

Replacing anodes is more about the quality/mineral content of the water than age. So, without knowing that... damned if you do; damned if you don't.
