Rust stains on driveway-
We're listing our house and the only negative realtor came up with is some slight rust stains on our 3 car concrete driveway. We have well water and it's hard. Have a Step Saver water conditioner for the house but didn't want to hook sprinkler system to it. BTW-rust stains were here when we bought 3 yrs. ago.
What's the best way to remove them.

I know of two products, don't know how effective either is.
One is Iron Out...usually found in groceries near the laundry detergent (uh huh...) The other is Rust Aid, sold at home improvement and hardware stores by the gallon.

Thanx realtor had just suggested muriatic (sp) acid-but I fear that may hurt the lawn, etc.

Try CLR
Just put it on full strength and let it sit overnight then rinse with a hose.
Buy CLR Cal / Rust / Lime Remover Online at drugstore.com
Most drug stores, Walmart, Walgreens, etc carry it. Some grocery stores might even have it.
See the effects and repeat if necessary.

Muriatic acid is the proper way. It will be so diluted after pressure washing it won't hurt the lawn. It's very strong though in pure form so be careful if you go that route...where rubber gloves. That's also how you prep with Zylon (concrete paint) which has to be one of the best products I have seen in awhile. Just re did the pool deck with it.

Yeah...and at LEAST a dust mask, if not a full respirator.
There are other acidic components you could try that are a little less toxic.
Lemon juice, vinegar, hydrogen peroxide...

Your danger might be........
Yeah, you go the strong route and get the stain out but.........
The place the stain was winds up being a spot in itself that is very clean / clear or whatever and that stands out worse than the rust spot. It does happen.
I would tend to go with the least power to take out the stain and leave as little noticeable spot behind.
Might still try the CLR first.

Not arguing against any other ideas. I just perfer to do something once and be done with it.....of course I would take the little bit of time it would take and just pressure wash the entire thing anyways....especially if I was trying to sell.

I had heard that the slight rusty stains in my driveway were from the iron re-enforcement bars in the concrete?????????????????
