No. We have a skylight someone else installed on our home and it's AWFUL. In the summer that room becomes an oven. In the winter it's freezing. That stupid thing leaks on and off. It's been repaired numerous times and still leaks. When it comes time to redo the roof, it will cause the project to take longer and cost more to deal with new flashing and cutting in around it. When we replace our roof, our skylight is coming out and I plan on beating it to death in a dumpster. Can't wait!

In my experience, I've had two skylights with no leaking for 20 years.

However, to the OP and as others have said, they are noisy when it rains but that's more of an issue if you have them in a bedroom, for example.

I've never cleaned a skylight but maybe because they are so high I just don't see the dirt?! Anyway, cleaning has never been a consideration.

If you're going to do it, at least get the most bang for the buck by making sure you're oriented to the south or west and the angle is such that it's not too highly pitched given your roof.
