If you had the choice of owning a home that is at a lake or the ocean (namely the beach), which waterfront destination would you choose?

Ocean. I bought some land in Tela, Honduras. It has a beautiful white sand beach. It is my retirement job. Building a resort.

My first choice would be waterfront on the Puget Sound... it is almost the best of both...

My parents live part-time close to Holden Beach in NC, it would make me happy to live there, too.

I would prefer to live in a lakefront home. Owning an oceanfront property poses too many problems.

I have looked at property somewhere along NC's intercoastal waterway. Not interested in beach front, as insurance is too high and damage too probable here . . . hurricanes and water damage - just make it difficult. But I LOVE the beach!!!

Anywhere near the surf.
I don't really care for the high cost of an ocean view--or the danger from storms, spring tides, and tsunamis. I do want to be close to the ocean in order to surf and visit the beach. My ideal house would be a block or so back from a 50ft oceanfront cliff with a secret stairway or ladder to a beach down below it. There would also need to be a decent break within paddling distance of said beach. If I were to have to live inland, I wouldn't object to lakefront, but I wouldn't pay extra for it. |

I prefer a lake front or bay front. Growing up on the Bay of Green Bay, we had alot of fun on the water and the fishing was great. I just like the aura of the lake or bay, but I too love the beach sand. Maybe because at this time in my life, I'm either or, but when I do retire, I'd like a nice little cottage on the lake or bay.

Another reason I don't want a oceanfront home is the noise factor. Homes by the sea are too noisy, and I don't like the roaring sound of the ocean at night.

Either if it has sailboats on it. I hate being on boats but LOVE watching them
