Actually it's $10.00 every other week and he only works local and I've known him since he was 5 years old.
One thing to consider............. the price of gas.
I just took our gas cans to get them filled for our various lawn tools. Couple that with the cost of gas to drive to your place and bring the mowers, etc. And their time is worth something.

Your correct, actually I went back a looked at what I pay and it's now $12.00 every other week. I was reminded that I voluntarily increased it to cover gas cost.
If you supply the equipment and the fuel to run it, you shouldn't pay any more than $10.00 an hour for the labor, and that's being very generous. It's not rocket science, it's only mowing the lawn.
Do people not cut their lawns anymore? No wonder America is in trouble!!!
I bought an electric mower, no gas, no mess, quiet, I could go on. And I agree about the $10/hr, although you need to factor in their time in coming to your location. If you get a neighborhood kid to do it they can be cheap, where as someone traveling to your location will charge more.
In OK it costs me $35-$50 per cut and edging...some do better than others. In Houston it cost me $20-25 for the same...a little southern competition.
Try to find if a person or company is doing other homes in the area as they are likely to give a neighborhood discount.
