Ok - so this is an old thread but I discovered a new product today that may help with water spots. I bought it for my front windows that had water spots on them from watering the plants. It worked so well I thought it would work on my shower glass doors.
Its called Meguiars Water Spot Cleaner - in a red bottle. Found it at Advanced Auto Parts. Cleaned the windows really well - followed it with Rain-X. The shower is taking a bit more elbow grease but its working - maintenance should be a breeze.
If ts galss with no decorative desgn that vai ries I try the method GM recommended for year to clean auto glass of the scum that is hard to remove. Use Bon Ami or bar tenders friend on a wet sponge..At least o auto glass you then flow water over the glass and any plce that it does not flow smoothly is astil has film. I would think if its the metod for outside auto gal lass it will work good o shower glass to remove the scum.I do it every once in w awhile to especvially the windhield outswide and its the only method i fouf that works,Its alos quiten wiper ba lades that can skip.squeek from a film o glass that glass cleaner will not remove.
I've been using 2 new products by a company called, "Bring it on!" "It really works" is the cleaner, used with a fine mesh screen to scrub off the soap scum. Then I wipe "Pro-Tech Shield" onto the clean surface, and buff. It lasts for months. I do the daily squeegee / towel thing too.
If you have hard water, then you have etching. We could not clean our old shower doors, and we really worked at it. We used to live in a house with a water softener, and we never had problems with etching.
Here we have no water softener. When we remodeled our bath, we took responsibility for wiping the glass doors down every time we shower. I use a shower squeegee first and then finish up with a microfiber cloth. It tales a couple of minutes.
You could have new doors installed, and/or you could have a softener installed in your house.
Or, you simply put in a shower curtain. To me that is the simplest solution.
