hdgot1 is on a distinguished road
Hi desertsun41 - since I am staring at a stripped down kitchen I will also be looking for cabinets and went to local home depot. Got a Thomasville quote of about 10k.

Where can I find the Merrilat brand? I am in the 94061.

Thanks and regards - even though I should be in bed I also am glad I found this thread.....

I think Merrilat is the Menards brand.

Did you try to negotiate with Home Depot? We bought Thomasville and love them. Menards was having a sale on their Merrilat brand so I was about to get the same discount. They were also offering a free sink base at the time (last month). Don’t be afraid to ask for a discount!

We had Merrilat in our first house and used KraftMaid in the house we built in 1999. Both were durable and functioned extremely well.

Our current house is 40 years old and the kitchen is getting gutted. The cabinets are literally falling apart. We chose KraftMaid mainly due to experience with our last house. We wound up ordering them through a builders supply shop that is local to our region. Not exactly a discount shop but the kitchen guy has been there for 15 years and is well experienced- and I'm willing to pay for that experience.

Our kitchen has bulkheads and some other features that require a seasoned eye, as we can't tear the bulkheads out without re-routing plumbing, venting and wiring.

However- the quote for some 20 odd cabinets, including a tall pantry pull out cabinet and a few other nice features, was $7,000 for raised panel. That was $3,000 less than BLowes estimate (and they don't do house-calls for fitment, lol)

Since I'm installing them myself with the help of a friend who's a contractor, the kitchen guy from where we bought them will be valuable in the long run.

I like KraftMaid- their a well built brand and priced reasonably so the average dude like me can afford them, lol.

Threerun. Were these for 30" cabinets? We went from 30" to 42" and noticed quite a price jump, but the 42" look so much better!

They are 30" wall cabinets. With a bulkhead you can't really go larger than that.

Our last house had the tall variety not quite to the ceiling and quite frankly they were a pain in the butt. My wife couldn't get anything out from the top shelf without the aid of a chair or a step stool, and the top of the cabinets collected dust, dirt and grime and was a ROYAL pain to keep clean.

I'm keeping the bulkheads. To He*l what anyone thinks about that, lol.
