What brand of wood blinds would you recommend? Are Hunter Douglas worth the price? What about Bali or Levolor? I am brand new at this, and I don't want to be taken for a ride. I like good quality, but I am also looking for a good value. Thank you in advance for your help.
I have bought Hunter-Douglas blinds for a number of my houses and have been extremely pleased with their quality and looks. Personally, I wouldn't even consider another brand.
Hunter Douglas your paying a higher price, but they are American made (so I was told and read from the company). With Hunter D I had a customer bring in a cellular shade that she ordered from another place that was no longer in business. The blind was about 5 years old and where the blind hung at, had a blind next to it. Long story short, they replaced both blinds at no extra cost to the customer basically because of color variation in the fabric.
I personally LOVE Bali (they sister companies to Graber both under Springs Window Fashions) and when we owned a house, I had their product in my home. I never had any issues with them (along with Hunter D). I had customers bring in blinds that were 8 years old that something went wrong that was under the warranty, they pulled things up with no problem (basically because in the headrail it has a confirmation number and they can pull anything up with that number).
Levolor on the other hand I would not put them in my home. If you do go with them, make sure you hold on to the original receipt. We had some really tough times getting them to honor customers warranties with out it.
Something else. If your going real wood, take into consideration if they are going to be in a bathroom, laundry room basically because of moisture. There is a composite wood (Hunter D is everwood and not sure what Bali's is) that you can put in a moisture area but does not weigh as much as a faux. Your real wood is going to be lighter in weight also compared to a faux.
I would have loved to have Bali or Hunter Douglas, but I was given a budget to work with and have lots of windows so had to go with Levelor wood blinds. They look fine, and I've had no problems whatsoever so far.
I do agree that in areas with moisture problems, faux wood blinds are preferable. I put those in my garage too, where it didn't matter as much to me as long as it covered the windows.
