Yes I agree. I'm a recovering tampon-flusher myself. Up until we moved into our own house and I realized that we would be responsible for plumbing expenses, I've changed my mind. Now.....let's solve this toilet lid crisis and we'll have a happy home.
Unless the toilet is being used, the seat is down and the lid is closed. Otherwise, to keep peace in all buildings with a toilet, we guys have to put it up, big girls and can put it down and if not, even in the dark of night at 3 AM, the bowl rim will usually prevent yer hinder from getting to the water in the bowl. Of course if yer a skinny bony thing, ya might want to turn on a light and look before sitting.
BTW, for a truely happy home, the paper comes off the top or bottom of the roll but, until you have developed the ability to use one hand or the other, you use two hands to tear off the proper number of squares/sheets which should never exceed 4 at a time. None of that spinning the roll at 30 mph to tear off 4 feet of paper in less than 1.38 seconds and then having to repeat the process 3-4 times!
The dip can was probably an accident. I don't begrudge accidents like that or things falling into the toilet as it's flushed. The tampons and maxipads were not an accident and it appears to the the same person because it happens at about the same shift time at least once or twice a month.
Greenchili, go right ahead and continue doing so within your own home because if it does get clogged up then it will be your responsibility. However, please don't do this outside your home, especially in large buildings used by a great many people. When you do this and the toilet gets clogged then you're leaving your mess for someone else to clean up for you.
In the last ten days I've had two main line stoppages from feminine hygiene products... a toilet plugged with q-tips, another with baby wipes and one with a child's toy.
I've installed Rubbermaid tampon collectors on the restroom walls of the Hospital I oversee... prior, we had at least one Hygiene product blockage per week in the public lavatories.
Any tenant caused blockage is billable to the tenant. I usually pay for the first one as a learning experience... repeat offenders get billed.
I pay anytime roots are the only thing coming back on the rooter cable.
Residents will swear up and down that they NEVER flush hygiene products... you should see the expressions when they are presented a zip lock for several or more from the Rooter guy or me... yes, I bought a $3000 Spartan just for emergency drain problems.
Oh, by the way... my plumber calls all "Flushable" hygiene and cleaning products "Job Security"
Thanks Sailordave, thanks a lot. I just went to the kitchen and there in the sink, was our biggest cooking pot filled with water, and something white appeared to be soaking in it. On closer inspection, yes it was one of my little monthly helpers.
Y'see, I told my sweetie about your post, and he just had to waste one of my pads and find out for himself. *sigh*. He did say it didnt seem to be any bigger, but no matter, I never flush 'em. I've got one less to flush now anyways.
This is for all the women out there. Tampons and maxipads go in the trashcan, not the toilet! Try this experiment. Fill up a bucket with water and throw a maxipad in the water. Wait a while and see how big it gets. Tampons build up in the pipes after getting their string caught and collecting other matter. So stop flushing that garbage down the toilet!
Dave, you are a very brave man! Telling a woman, who is in that "time of the month" attitude what to do and not do with their feminine hygiene products, could tend to be painful! They may come up with alternative suggestions on where to "stick it"! lol
A friend was in a public restroom that had the automatic flush. When she stood up her cell phone fell in.... bye bye!
