Maintain your deck properly- or replace the decking with PVC.

I live in new orleans and have a raised 3Ft. house. The subflooring is1x6 a nd 1x8 planks with 1 1/2 in space between, resting on 2x8 vertical planks. I had 3/4 in plywood on the subflooring then put down laminate. Several years later i have had water damage and termites which are drawn by the moisture. I'm redoing the floor and need to know where to place moisture barriers and what type. i.e. tarpaper on the subflooring and visqueen over the plywood? Should it be treated plywood? them put down the laminate?

Cover the crawlsepace floor with 6ml poly. That should take care of at least 85% of your floor structure and flooring problems.

Taking care of the moisture problem where it originates will keep you from having to use other materials that in theirselves are moisture barriers.

We abated toxic mold from a 3 bedroom, 3 bath home. We tore the drywall out (half way up) and replaced it. Our contractor used a sealer that they swore would keep the water from coming up. 200 thousand dollars later, the water came back up even with a new pump system and French drains. They used the wrong kind of sealer. We are doing the floor all over again and need a sealer that penetrates the concrete and keeps ground water from coming back up. Xypex and Ardex were recommended. We don't get calls back from contractors and many are not trained to apply Xypex. Please let me know what we should do and what product would work best. We also need a contractor that is not flaky.
