Why does my wife put sheets on like this.
While helping make beds today, we put the sheets on, I asked. Why do you put the wide hem at the head of the bed? She told me. Because that is where it belongs. I want to know who made this decision? Why can't the narrow hem be at the head and the wide hem at the foot? Does anyone know?

Because that the way sheets go and the wide hem is the top. Putting the narrow hem at the top would be like wearing your undies inside out. Why do you not do that?
It looks better when you make the bed and is more comfortable against your neck. But its mostly a decorative thing.

I put the wide hem at the top because the washing instructions tag is generally at the bottom and I don;t want to look at or feel the scratchy tag. Often the wide hem has some sort of decorative border as well (a printed pattern, embroidery, lace).

I guess the next question should be: do you tuck the bottom of the top sheet under the mattress or do you leave it loose?

Sounds to me like a a simular age old argument about whether the toilet paper goes on paper off in or out.
Geez some people will go to bed tonight with no sheets. Be gratefull you have sheets and some one to put them on for you

I put my top sheet on with the right/ pattern side facing downward so that when I fold the sheet down the pattern and my family crest and the decorative wide hem will show.
I think I read that in the official bed makers handbook somewhere.

Well, if it didn't matter, both hems would be of equal width, wouldn't they?!

If it didn't make any difference, both hems would be the narrow one. Obviously, the wide, decorative hem goes at the top.

Studedude, bless you for being man enough to help your wife put sheets on the bed, and to openly admit it.
