I rinse mine well and put it in the laundry room in the basement. I've yet to detect an odor coming from it. If you do, try using a better cleanser in your mop water (I use Pine Sol).
After cleaning, you rinse out the mop and wring it... then where do you put it so that it will not stink up the house while drying?
Wet, but clean mop will not stink up the house! If the mop stinks, then you are spreading the stink, dirt, and germs all over your floors
Launder, rinse, and wring out your mop after each use, then hang to air dry in the garage, laundry room or backyard.
I prefer floor pads.
I put in in the washer and clean it. The last spin gets out water. My wrists can no longer wring out by hand. Then I put it in the dryer under the highest setting - cotton, with a dry, old towel and set on about 15-20 minutes. Put it back on the mop head and set it outside to dry. By nightfall it is dry and sweet smelling. The dry towel wicks away the majority of water and fluffs it up some for the next use. Plus any hair or lint is removed.
Luck to ya.

I toss ours in the washer with a load of towels or Mr. CSD's lawn mowing clothes then toss it in the dryer.
If you cannot do that put it outside until it is dry or the basement or the tub.
after I rinse and wash my mop, I put it on the fire escape to dry.
