Ok, so it has come down to me posting a question about laundry. ;-) I have a couple of black cotton clothes that look like the lint is ground in. I haven't washed them with towels or other linty stuff. I've washed them several times more by themselves, still they are covered in lint. We don't have particularly hard water. Ideas? I've tried more fabric softener, liquid detergent, no detergent, etc.
Turn them inside out when you wash them. The lint will be on the inside when you turn right side back after washed and dried. As for the lint that is already on them, duct tape is really the best solution. Take a strip and roll the tape with the sticky side out around your hand and go to work on the clothes. It may take a roll or two depending on how many pieces of clothes you have.
Hello, I have the same problem. I did not own a dryer, I hung everything on the line.
This is what I was told, by a GE repair man on Monday, that it is because there is no longer phosphates in the detergents, because of environment restrictions. Phosphates suspended the lint in the water and the washer filter caught the lint. On the new energy efficient washers, they no longer have lint filters. He suggested running on fluff /air cycle no heat, to remove lint.
I was very sad that there is not a better solution. ( GE whirlpool. same same)
