Vinyl Siding Versus Hardy Plank
I just bought a home in Union County that has hardy plank siding on the sides and back of the house. I did look at several other neighborhoods and the homes had vinyl siding. I was just wondering what the pros and cons are between the two. Coming from South Florida, I am not familiar with siding.

Hardiplank is a material that has some wood in it, but is mixed with cement to make it much more durable than wood siding. Here is a link for info: http://architecture.about.com/od/sid...hardiplank.htm
A lot of builders are using it now. It does need to be painted, but supposedly the paint job lasts a lot longer than if you just had wood siding. In comparison to vinyl, IMO it looks a lot nicer. Just make sure it is hardiplank and not hardiboard, which is essentially a wood product. I have seen some listings that list hardiplank when in fact the siding is hardiboard. Best of luck in your new home!

Hardiplank is awesome. It's a cement/wood mix. Waaay better than vinyl. Consider yourself lucky!

What communities are using Hardiplank, I'd like to check them out? My family and I are looking in the Waxhaw/Wesley Chapel Area...

Don't think so.

I like vinyl - looks neater to me and also has no maintenance imo. But that is just my preference. But a friend in construction did inform me that hardiplank is stronger than vinyl.

Definetly Hardiplank... good choice!
Vinyl looks cheap personally. And it feels like the house is completely made out of plastic and would blow away if someone blew hard enough.
