Tipping Furniture Delivery Men
Okay...I don't know which forum this question belongs in so I took a chance. Who tips the men who deliver your furniture. I have never done this but I know some people who do. What do you guys think?

Yes, tip them. They don't make a lot. Hand it out yourself to each man though, don't just give it to the foreman or the other guys will probably see about $5.00 if that.

Some will call me names for this but I tip furniture men by the way they look. If they look like gang bangers wearing pants so large that they can conceal 12 semi automatic weapons without detection as well as wearing their hats on crooked and Tshirts that look like evening gowns they get $5 each. If they look like decent hard working citizens and are polite they get $20 each. If anyone is not polite they get nothing.
And if they do look like a thug I call the store manager and ask if they were a single woman would they let some one who looked like that into their home.

If a guy has a job moving furniture he is obviously a hard worker.
He should be paid for the work he does, not for the way he dresses.
If the Village People moved your furniture, which one would you give the biggest tip?

Village People? I would not let the YMCA boys in my home.
To me being polite and being presentable is just as important as the skills needed to perform the job. I am in peoples homes every day. Do you know how many times I'm in a house and the door bell rings, the homeowner opens the door and there is a big fat sloppy Plumber with his crack showing who says: "Yea I'm the Plumber, whataya want?". If you were a single woman would you let that in your house?
If you are going to go into peoples homes for a living you have to dress and act the part. And if an employer hires punks who dress like gang thugs then shame on them too.

I always buy them lunch, and tip them anywhere from 10-20 each. That is a crummy job, moving peoples junk, and throwing your back out/knee problems galore.

All these guys did for me was deliver a dining room set which took all of five minutes from truck to house...I ended up giving them $20 but not because I felt it was the right thing to do frankly.

Glad I read this post. I am having some furniture delivered next week....and quite frankly...it never occurred to me that I should tip them. I thought it was just their job. I'm already having to pay a fortune just to get the stuff delivered from the store in the first place. Wasn't there a time when furniture stores did this for free? I sure miss living in a town where I knew people who had trucks.

I pay to the delivery guys only if they are polite, responsible and ready to listen. I just do not pay anything to the guys who do not protect floors, door frames, walls etc while delivering.

It is their job, and they are being paid to do it.
The only time you should tip them is if you ask them to do something above and beyond their normal duties.
Or, if you share desertsun41's values and like the way they wear their pants.
