An electronic repellent won't do diddly-squat.

The only thing that eventually got rid of an infestation I once had was a strong malathion in kerosene solution, a thorough inch by inch cleaning, boiling of laundry, and perseverance.

The EPA has made killing these bugs almost impossible for the homeowner or apartment dweller. A professional may be your only hope, and even then many don't do a good job.

We've been so spoiled by not having bed bugs in the United States.

I stumbled up on something interesting when I was researching bed bugs. Remember those one peice pajamas with feet that you stepped into and zipped or snapped up? The are sort of like baby clothes but for older children. There were even adult pajamas like this. Well, those pajamas existed to keep bed bugs from biting!

They recommend covering as much skin as possible with socks and long panted and sleeved pajamas. They still make the footed pajamas. If I had bed bugs, I'd go buy the pajamas so the children could be spared as much as possible while fighting the infestation. I would probably buy some for myself and my husband too!

The line above is supposed to be for summer.

I use Suspend SC on a daily basis treating my customer's homes and businesses. While Bed Bugs is on the label, you'll find it isn't very effective against them. In fact none of the synthetic pyrethroid pesticides (including Deltamethrin, which is the active ingredient in Suspend) are very effective against them.

Not only is it uncomfortable, but I'm sure it's downright embarrasing to have bed bug bites all over their faces. If you saw what people go through with a bed bug infestation, you wouldn't be making fun of people who are concerned.
I wasn't trying to upset you Hopes and I am really sorry if I hurt your feelings.

We've traveled in developing countries and stayed in some shady places. I'm always terrified of picking up bedbugs, but so far so good. If there's one thing I really hate hate hate, it's human parasites.

As a traveler, how does one prevent bedbugs from hitchhiking a ride in luggage and moving in when you get back home?

Don't put the luggage on the floor, furniture, or bed. Don't set it down on anything. Hang it up on the shower curtain rod or the clothing rod. Don't put your purse down on anything either. These bugs crawl and hide in things. Keep your shoes up too. Take sealable plastic bags with you. Seal all of your clothes into plastic bags when you're leaving the hotel to return home. Leave the suitcase in the trunk of your car in the sun for the day----there is a chance the heat will kill any that came with you. When you walk into the house, leave your shoes outside, take off all of your clothes and throw into the washer. Later, take the sealed plastic bags out of your suitcase---leave suitcase outside---take sealed plastic bags to washing machine and wash all clothing. Don't leave any clothes laying around while you're waiting for a load of wash. Keep everything sealed until you're ready to wash. Vacuum every crevice of the suitcase. Make sure there are no bed bugs hiding anywhere in your shoes before you take your shoes into the house.

If I were faced with an infestation I think I'd get rid of all my bedding, mattress, box spring, cothing, etc and bomb the house. Ugh. Creepy crawlies in bed sound nasty!

They can infest all furniture and creveses in the house woodwork, not just the bedding and clothing. There is no bomb that will kill them. DDT kills them but it's illegal now.
