At first- it looked like that old asbestos lap siding.
But that outside corner on the left says otherwise- there seems to be no seam, and certainly no trim board(s). It looks as if it were bent to wrap the corner. So my guess is aluminum.
Not enough detail or number of pixs to tell that much.
It could be a number of things.
Maybe the old cement hardboard, maybe some type of aluminum or even a form of solid vinyl. Whatever it is has a lot of height and lap exposure in each course, far more than most sidings. That sort of points to some of the old fiberglass panel type sidings, something a bit out of date today. They had molded corner fittings and it was very difficult to find the seams but a very high exposure was typical. There is that one spot in the inside corner over the chair back that does look like some of the fiberglass installation, you can see where a seam like area is fitted. Normally did not see it that much in a plain solid color or without much texture so we really need more pixs. That type siding came in like 4 foot panels that was maybe 18" - 30" high.
More close ups, views of the undersides of the siding looking up, more areas / sides of the house. Actually really need to be able to touch it, put the eyeballs on it close up. If you feel it, rap on it with your knuckles what does it feel / sound like. Normally you can tell a lot just by the touch of it.
Also you can look around and see if any spare bits were stored in the garage, basement, attic, etc. On the better jobs, the homeowners knew to keep some spare stuff handy. Having some of it off the house tells you exactly what it is.
impossible to tell from that picture (for me at least) but it does look like aluminum siding.
i was working on a house with this once and upon putting my drill bit at the edge of it, we found it was electrically charged and i was connected to the opposite side of the line. it made for a nice sparkly show.
If it's really stiff and feels like a textury, concrete, it could be asbestos. We have alot of houses with this time of exterior in New Jersey. Also, as someone mentioned above, the thickness/width of the each 'board' may be an indication of when it was made.
You got that picture from the Long Island MLS listings. MLSLI.com to be exact. I suggest you go directly to the listing where you found it and right there in print is a line called "siding type" and it tells you what kind of siding it is. Unless the listing Realtor is wrong of course which is common.
