Mine just stopped heating. It's only a couple of years old, and it was working fine until about a week ago. I noticed that it was taking a little longer to defrost things, but kept on using it anyway. Now, it's not heating at all on any setting. The timer works, and it clicks on and makes the same humming noise as it always did while going through the cycle, but when the bell sounds to signal that it's done, the food is still cold.

Is it something easy, like changing a part? Is it worth it to try to fix it, or should I just get another one? I have my old one stored in the basement somewhere. That one is a very basic model over 20 years old, and still works as well as it did when I got it.

Haul your old one up from the basement, and use it until it dies.

Yeah - that's probably the best advice! But I had kinda gotten used to the extra bells and whistles on the newer one.

I really don't want to buy another one just now because I want to replace my stove and exhaust hood soon, and I want to install an over-the-range model of microwave at that time.

Guess I need to go downstairs and start rooting around...

Home Despot currently has an Over-the-stove Maytag for $228 delivered. It has enough bells and whistles to make it a decent deal. A repair would cost at least $100, if practical. If you are handy with electronics, you could open it up and look for a leaky capacitor or fried resistor, but if it is the magnetron a repair wouldn't be worth it.
