I would spend it on a nice set of French doors and new windows in my kitchen bay window....that would be about $10,000 I believe.

Truthfully, I would put it in a savings to give to the kids whenever they were broke and talking about moving back in with me. Like now.

Probably new insulated vinyl windows. Right now my house still has the silver aluminum windows from the 70's and I hate them.

Hey, we have one of those!

When she and her husband were buying their first house several years ago:

"He spent some of our closing costs on trading cards and I need $300 or we can't close on the house. We have to be out of the rental by the end of the week and if we can't close on this house I don't know where we're going to go or what we're going to do!"

*Opens checkbook*

A couple of months ago:

"I'm leaving him and I found an apartment and I need $600 for the security deposit by tomorrow and I don't know where I'm going to get it, I don't know where I'm going to go or what I'm going to do!"

*Opens checkbook*

My wife would want to spend it in the kitchen. I would think to buy a huge plasma TV.

Factual Bottom Line:
WE would have countertops, flooring, appliances.

New Windows. Our house is 30 years old and quite a few of the original windows have cracked seals, and the condensate between the panes drives me crazy.

New kitchen. The country look just isn't for me.

Or, I could just deal with the kitchen awhile longer, and get a new furnace with central air and improved ductwork. Hmmm.

I'd paint and repair the wood trim on my house and upgrade the insulation in my attic. If there was money left over, I'd see if I need to update the insulation in my walls.

Any money left after that, then I'd replace the transom window in my MBR with a double-hung window. Bathrooms need fresh air!
