Appliances got here today. Finally starting to look like a kitchen.

Installing the over-the-range microwave was a PITA. But I got it in there and it's even level to boot
These quiet shut drawers and doors are pretty nifty!
So my list of what is left to do:
1. Countertops (another 2-3 weeks out. Getting Samsung Staron (just like Corian) with integrated sink
2. Get new flooring. Hope to have this in 1-2 weeks
3. Install hardware on cabinets. Not sure if I'm going to tackle this or pay someone with experience.
4. Install GFCI outlets. Shouldnt' take me more than a hour when I get some time.
Budget so far:
1. Cabinets and countertops: $6900
2. Appliances, sink faucet: $3500
3. Labor to knock down wall, frame and texure wall, and install cabinets (with parts): $1600
4. Electrican to move wires in the wall: $120
So around $12,100 so far. Flooring will probably be another $1000 or so, cheaper if I tackle it myself.
Definitely over $10k but still manageable.
Thanks to Lowes and HD, we have the cabinets, countertops, and appliances 12 months/0% interest so we can pay them off in a few months.

It is impossible to give an estimate without seening this kitchen in person. And so many other things to think about, we cannot see. I would say you start inverviewing certain companies who specialize in kitchen rennovations. Seek advice from your local LOWE'S AND HOME DEPOT. What about bearing walls, electricial, too many things that should be looked at by a pro.

Calijewel you should check the dates of posts you are answering. Pokers kitchen is finished and looks pretty good too. Anyway I just have to add that if you ask advice from Home Depot or Lowes then you will be misled by people who know less then those doing the asking. If not misled then you will be ignored because they are too embarrassed to tell you they just dont know. They are just lowly paid floor clerks who's experience in home improvement is hanging a curtian rod for Mom and Dad. There are no bargains in the big orange who only wants your little green. Dont be suckerd by advertising.
Been a while but we are about 90% done. Just need to put new base boards and 1/4 round. We finished the laminate flooring just last night, took over a week with working on it a bit every night. Also need to replace the outlets with bright white and put covers on them. And put on the brush nickel cabinet hardware, which will give it a nice finishing touch.
Total price with everything (labor, cabinets, countertops, appliances, flooring, faucet, disposal) was right at $14,000. A bit over budget but what it isn't?
- Cabinets and staron (corian) countertops: $6800
- GE SS appliances: $3400
- Labor to install cabinets, knock down a wall and shorten another wall: $2000
- Laminate flooring (320 sq ft): $1400
- Disposal: $170
- Faucet: $200
hello, Congrats on your new house! I'm a pro carpenter and wanted to give you an opinion. I 'm pretty sure the wall between the kitchen and living room is load bearing! There is probably a girt beam spanning the whole with (across the little window opening.) That side wall is probably a support post at the line and the rest is probably electric /whatever runs. End of day,if you need steel fitch plates w/lvl's then in total for demo and re-frame your looking at 40'000 with you buying appliances /counter tops/plumbing fictures/electricle fictures.
I have to disagree. We just bought a house and before moving in redid the entire kitchen from top to bottom and only kept the drywall. The kitchen before was functional but we hated the cabinets, floors, counter tops, paint, everything really. The kitchen is the hub of your home and if you hate it your not going to do much cooking. Also, if you put it off for a year, then you might not ever get around to it. Best advice would be to get a few quotes from a few stores. Decided what brand you want of each item then get the stores in a bidding war. For example we got LG appliances and went to several stores and got their best bid in writing. Took it to Home Depot and then asked for 10% off the lowest bid (wanted to use Home Depot since they offered no interest or payments for 12 months.)
Wait a minute, didn't you just foreclose on a condo? Am I missing something? How are you able to buy a new house and get more credit? I just bought primary residence, and I can't even imagine buying stainless steel appliances because I can't afford them. I'm also going into month 3 of furnishing the house because I had to make sure I had enough money to pay for the items I want. "No payments for twelve months?"
If OP does not need stainless appliance and fancy tiles like us, it should be doable at $10000 with very good quality cabinet and granite countertop.
If that covers demo/re frame/ 2x sub floor / sheet rock/ electric / plumbing/painting/permits/labor, then you got a deal.
