Sounds confused.....
Do you just mean, the bathtub is staying and they are putting a shower surround type deal on top of it. Making the walls of the area above the tub into a shower, you can still use it as a bathtub but also have the option to take a shower.
Is that what you are describing?
I never heard of Bath Fitters but that don't mean much. How much to they want for the work and what are they promising?

If anyone (you or next owner) ever wants to removed the Bath Fitter surround, they will have to, basically, gut the bathroom. The glues they use are so permanent you have no choice but to remove the walls and tub.

You really don't want to go this route for all the reasons mentioned above and more.

Bath Fitters
My sister in law just got it done and in one day...they repaired a wall before installing and cost them ALOT!!!!! for plain tub and surround wall unit and two corner shelves....almost $5000. They priced up doing a shower unit in another bathroom...just install ...no removal because the old shower is already gone...over $3500. Now that I know the surround will be impossible to get out with out removing walls...I am checking somewhere else.

My neighbor spent $8000 and it's ugly. She needed plumbing work done at a later time and they had to break open the wall on the other side. I wouldn't do it.

I recently had a tub converted to a shower and used Bathfitters of Easton, MA. I have been very pleased with the results. It is just what I wanted. I got a few extras and was happy with the whole job taking only one day (actually less) and the clean up was good. I am not in any way connected to Bathfitters and have nothing to gain saying this except expressing my exhuberance at what I got.

You could have someone come in and install a nice tile surround for much less then what Bathfitters would cost you and it would look much better.
