Default Straw Bale

I've heard of Straw Bale, but I would love to get more information. A friend of mine wants to build them on some land.

I don't know about straw bales but a mobile home certainly can be encased with a more permanent structure and it can be added onto as well. My brother did this in several stages and it turned out quite nice.

My son has a co. that installs ICF Insulated Concrete Forms. I think in 10 years they will replace 50% of the concrete block in use today. The insulation value is far greater than stick built. They are also stormproof.

Ever see a straw bale house on fire? Very difficult to extinguish, just like a hay fire. I'm amazed they are permitted in a dry climate like Arizona. I too thought they were a great idea, until I saw one burn on the evening news.

Kudos to everyone pushing forward with these alternative approaches. I think todays stick built home is an inferior design - look at the homes left standing for 100s of years - ICF and straw bale, rammed earth, solar heat - planning for permenance and sustainablility.
