Just a tropical storm? We get one of those every few years. Just lots of rain, sometimes sideways. Nothing stops; people still go to work and live life normally. Just clear your porches to be safe.

I think Tropical Storm Allison beat the damage done by Hurricanes Ike and Alicia.

Yeeeeaaah...I think Alison showed us why we shouldn't write off the damage a Tropical Storm can do...especially here in Houston.

Not sure what the OP was referring to. Earlier today, there was a system off the coast of La that the NHC gave a high probability of forming into a tropical cyclone... but it has since died out over southern La. There is also a system over the Yucatan, but the NHC only gives it a 30% chance of tropical cyclone formation.

It's because Allison stalled over the Houston area. Had it actually moved at a steady speed (like Ike), it wouldn't have caused that much damage. If Ike had stalled like Allison, it would have been catastrophic.

The one near Southern LA hasn't died out quite yet. It brushed the coast near Terrabonne Bay, but it's now back out over water, just off the coast, moving west, rather than its earlier NNW motion. Not saying it's going to become a tropic depression or anything, though. Just saying it's not totally dead yet and we may see some more moderate to heavy rain from it a few days out.
