Default More Moving to Houston Questions

Hi Everyone,
My husband and I currently live in Denver and we are going to have to move to either Salt Lake, San Fran, or Houston. We may also be able to stay put, but that is less likely. I think given our budget San Fran is out of the picture and I'm very sad about this. My husband really wants to go to Houston, but I'm worried. We HATE suburbs and sprawl. We hate Mexican food/tex mex/bbq. We are very liberal and a thriving art and cultural scene is important. Sitting in traffic is something we have a huge problem with and we love public transit. I need to find a job, but I am morally opposed to working for an oil or gas company or somewhere like Haliburton. We love art, to discuss books, attend lectures, etc.. We, being from CO, are huge hikers and love being outside. My favorite thing about visiting new cities is just wandering the streets and seeing what the city has to offer. Is Houston for us? I'm really worried. People in Colorado are so down on Houston and they tell us we would hate it there. Please don't think I'm insulting your city-I'm just afraid it isn't for us and I'm worried!

You didn't really post a question, just a lot of stereotypes about the city. Sounds like your convinced already you will hate it here. I'll sum it up before closing this thread.

Harris county is very large and we have many suburbs, we are next to the Gulf of Mexico, so its humid and almost sea level. The energy industry is a prominent player in the regional economy, but not the only one. Public transit is not too good but its adequate for getting into the city from a burb. IMHO Houston is not a 'scenester' city. There are many things to do here in this city of more than 4 million if your willing to look for them.
