Taking advantage of cheap labor and exploiting people are two totally different things...at least in my opinion.

Wal-Mart is trying to get into all of these urban areas like inner loop Houston, Chicago, and now DC and they bring their suburban model to urban neighborhoods. That literally sucks.
Blame our city ordinances that don't allow businesses to build up to the curb and mandate a certain # parking spots. Can't build urban if you're not up at the curb and required to build a huge lot in front.

Well, Spring Valley Village doesn't want it either. But as to the Heights, look at the last line of this article. Appears a 'competitor' has plans for the site as well. It's either Kmart or Target. Who else is in the cheap crap market? Walmart kills neighborhoods.

It's all cheap crap. It's just that Target pretends it isn't. Kind of like IKEA.

Instead of a Wal-Mart, I think a nice three-story urban Target would do great there.

There is a new Target about 1/4 mile away.

I wouldn't really call it thug. I've seen plenty of families seeing movies at Edwards before. The MarqE's downfall was the Katy Freeway reconstruction and Vans Skatepark going away. That skatepark brought in a lot of teens with the parent's money. I think the MarqE is coming back through. Anytime I'm going somewhere in the Loop and drive past it at night (on the weekends), the parking lots are always completely full.

I would think HEB would make a comeback, but they're trying to open up an "urban" store (basically, an HEB on stilts) in Montrose. Complete with a two acre park and side parking.
