I agree, it's very dumb.

Uhh no, actually it's very smart, you don't magically gain the knowledge of how to drive once you turn 18. I see people in their 50's all the time who don't even understand simple rules. If you can at least learn that a left turn lane is meant ONLY for left turns, not as an extra driving lane or a lane you get into in order to merge with traffic, then you're cool with me.

Go anywhere else in this country and see how teenagers drive. I can tell you I've never seen more than 1 or 2 people doing something stupid like that. Using common sense does not come from driver's ed. I'm sure most of us have that common sense from just being passengers in a car for the first 16 or so years of our lives.

You can all argue until you're blue in the face but the fact remains that this is the current law. Until your contemporaries prove that these classes are not necessary to the safety of all drivers, passengers & pedestrians out on the road, you're not going to see changes any time soon.

You & the OP may indeed be the responsible, experienced, knowledgeable drivers that you profess to be but there are obviously enough drivers in your age group that have proven NOT to be. It's because of them that you're having to deal with this new law. We - older adults - aren't your problem - it's your peers.

Many of us had to deal with the drinking age changing from 19 to 21 just as we were turning 19 back in the 80s. Laws change and we have to choose to either adapt or break the laws.

Get used to it now because you'll soon find out that there are a lot of laws that govern our lives that you're not going to like.

LOL! Well, you'll find out that there are a LOT of rules and regulations that are a real PITA as you go along.

This is just one of many, but Driver's Ed is for everybody's benefit, and you might accidentally learn something!

Yeah, but once people learned the rules; they **** on them and do whatever they want. If everyone followed the rules; we wouldn't be debating this issue right now.

I'm not understanding why you didn't get it at 16. Did they raise the age in which you can get your license now?

When I was in school (28 or so years ago) we had drivers ed right there in school. I think it started when you reached 15. At 16, after completing your drivers ed, you were able to take the written and driving portion of the test at the local DPS. If you passed both tests, you were on the road by 16 years of age. Different times, I guess.

Not all kids are like that, but there's an increasing number carelessness.
I have to wonder myself , it all goes back to the parents. But thankgod i'm not like the bulk of society , at the Train station I hold the door open if theres a large group of ppl , most will not say thankyou but the ones that do appreciate that there is someone who still has some common curiosity. On the subway or Light Rail i will stand up and let an Elderly person or female sit down. At stores i say hello to cashier and ask how his day is going , sometimes that pays off....., but i don't do it for the money i do it to feel better about myself if you know what i mean. I live in one of the rudest regions on earth.......there are still many like me in the NYC Metro. I'm only 19 if your wondering. Its sad to see that many in my age range don't act the same way and are careless , putting people's lives in danger. Around here DUI's that cause deaths make me angry because there are so many alts to driving....but ppl are afraid of there social status's to take the bus or subway after drinking 6 beers.... And then they usually end up killing an innocent person. The Texting n driving is worse , because almost every teen does it , but its a death sentence you can zone out real fast and it only takes 1 sec to crash. My generation has alot of good positives , but the negatives will hold it back for a long time.

Abrar, before making any more posts, watch this video showing what happens when a kid texts and drives at the same time:

Before making your argument; look up statistics proving adults are more likely to text while driving more than teenagers. It's already proven. You're all just wanting to place the blame on someone else when in reality adults are just as much of a threat on the road as young people.

Nothing wrong with Texas that a little maturity on the op's part would help.
