hehe. I was about to say that one. They use the actual French Flour. That's the major difference between here and there...that and the water.

French Bakery in Memorial is good, but it's more deserts with only a little bread. And they are wiped out by 11 am.

I have to giggle at all the suburban grocery store recommendations...have you actually tasted European bread? I mean, it's fine but nothing like what's ever there.

We moved here from Pittsburgh where family run bakeries (Italian and French) are common and we have the same problem; there really isn't anywhere to get good bread here. We will have to try the French Riviera Bakery.

Try getting a decent bagel. There are none to be had in Houston, as far as I know. All the bagels here are rolls, not nice hard bagels.

I enjoy Panera bread, but if you want it perfect, learn to make it yourself. It's not that hard, especially since the best breads have really simple recipes.

Really, New York City Bagels on Hillcroft St outside the loop is probably the best Bagel your gonna get in Texas - They make everything on-site, great deli and different coffees as well - it's definitely Mom & Pop but the overall flavor is East Coast - Go early.

I consider Wonder Bread good (for tomato sandwiches and finger sandwiches). You can get Wonder Bread at almost any grocer.

I'm less picky out the bread and there are a few (very few) wholegrain ones at grocery that satisfy me. But the BAGELS, that's a different story. Here, they don't know what a bagel is. LIke Nana053 said, they're all rolls! It's morning, and I'm drooling just thinking about real bagels. I'll have to visit NYC bagels and give them a try.
