Actually both are ALLOT alike, comparable in size, both southern citys, both known for there hip-hop scene, both have great economy's. If you want a beach, Def Houston, if you want to do more natural stuff like hiking, def Atlanta. Houston has a warmer climate then ATL, it doesnt get as cold in the winter, and there is the ocean though so its humid. But i think i would personally choose Houston, but its not an easy choice. Id live in eather honestly.

You couldn't go wrong with either, but from what I've heard about ATL (Never been there) the blacks are more intergrated in Houston.

When you are talking about 56% of the population being black and another 9% being of other ethnic groups ( leaving the other 37 or so % be white) then yeah it would seem the black people don't ALWAYS have to integrate with the white in order to have anything. Of course it happens as much as it needs too though.

I didn't mean percentage wise I meant in raw numbers. I know i've looked it up because me and my family in ATL had this argument before. even if it is 50 % there, thats 50% of like 600K max, houstons like 25% of over 2.2 million, comes out to a black population about the size of the whole population of atlanta. See the difference? And the suburbs there as i have fam in douglassvile, and marietta are not as integrated as ours. Plus to be honest, their "urban areas" i'll say, are a little more dangerous than ours. But not the worst that I know

Atlanta - city limits 132.4 sq mi (343.0 km2) , metro population 5,475,000
Houston - city limits 656.3 sq mi (1,558 km2) metro population 5,867,489

Atlanta - 55% black at 5,475,000 = 3,011,240
Houston - 24.1% black at 5,867,489 = 1,408,197.36

It is unfair to use Houston's city limits with Atlanta's considering it's massive land size. By using the metro populations we see that Atlanta does have a significant number of Africans Americans over Houston. If you want to argue Hispanics then Houston wins by land slide. I am surprised they don't run the city like the Cubans in Miami.

As for diversity in the suburbs, well with 3,011,240 blacks in a 5.4 million metro you would expect to see them everywhere as well as having their own suburbs and I do see them even in what may be considered the "whitest" suburbs by most American city demographics. Even the so called "Asian" part of town has a significant black presence. I am not sure where your family lives. There are always exceptions but clearly there are more black in Atlanta if you fairly include the metro or both areas.

This is WRONG information. There is not over 3 million blacks in METRO ATLANTA. 55% of ATLANTA not METRO ATLANTA is black. 30% of METRO ATLANTA is black. 24.1% of HOUSTON is black. About 17% of METRO HOUSTON is black.

There is about 350,000 blacks living in ATLANTA.
There is about 540,000 blacks living in HOUSTON.

There is about 1,700,000 blacks living in METRO ATLANTA.
There is about 1,000,000 blacks living in METRO HOUSTON.

That still proves my point that there are more blacks in metro Atlanta then metro Houston as that is the only fair way to compare them because of Houston's land size for it's city limits. This also proves the the suburbs are integrated seeing as how most of Houston's blacks live in the city limits.

And it is fair to compare Houston's black population to Atlanta's black population because you are comparing CITIES not METRO to CITY or CITY to METRO.

Lol I don't think that the person in question simply wants a city with the most raw numbers of black people, if thats what she wanted she would be moving to detroit. I think she just wants an environment that will offer her some of our culture, im just saying that you can easily find that in houston. I dont think it really matters who has more black people in raw numbers there both ok on that. Niether will be like living in Idaho for an african american.

Then it is a completely useless and even slyly misleading statistic. You know damn well Houston's city limits (656.3 sq mi (1,558 km2)) are more then double Atlanta's (132.4 sq mi (343.0 km2)) and that claiming " Houston has more black people" based on that alone is misleading and borderline deceitful to someone wanting to know which had more blacks.
