Hey Houston,

I live in Miami with my husband. We came here for his Master's in law. His area of expertise is Intellectual Property. My experience is in Business Development with Mexico. We are considering moving to Texas because at job interviews people in Miami do not consider Mexico as part of Latin America. Thus, they say we don't fit the profile for the position.

I am interested to know if Houston is a better market for us to consider moving to. If people in Houston in professional environments are generally accepting of people from Mexico like my husband? And if our experience in Mexico and being bilingual would give us an advantage enough to find work?

I would think Houston would be better than Miami for what you say.

Thanks that is what we are thinking. Especially since people here in Miami don't consider Mexico as part of Latin America - and experience in LatAm is what they look for.

I've got aquaintances in PEMEX, CEMEX, and a big innovative e-advertising company that targets spanish-speakers in both Mexico and the Hispanic community in the U.S. They are all Mexican-owned companies with their U.S. HQ in Houston. I think Telemundo just opened up a big office south of the Galleria too (although that isn't Mexican, I think). Especially in the Valley, one can almost think of the Mexican Frontera and south Texas and New Mexico as a single continuum country. I think you would do very well here. There is also a regional Federal Court House in downtown Houston that handles a lot of copyright and patent infringement cases. An intellectual property specialist would do very well I could imagine.

I didn't realize Mexico was not considered part of Latin America anywhere - their loss.

Bamba_boy, Thank you for your input. I am going to read up on the Federal Court House and more about Mexican companies located in Houston. Any further recommendations and insights are greatly appreciated.
