Where will you be working? The Commute along hwy 59 (Kingwood) is so much better than hwy 45. The Woodlands is great for shopping and eating out...but very congested (imo). Spring B is okay. A little better commute than the Woodlands, but you would find yourself going to the Woodlands a lot. Kingwood is nice and I think you can get a little more house for your $$ there. Go drive around in each area and see which one feels right. All have good schools. So it comes down to personal preference and where you think you will have a better quality of life. This is how we chose where we live. We felt it afforded us the best for our family taking all factors into consideration (schools, commute, shopping, church, community etc..).

Kingwood is fantastic. I chose it over the NW, and am so happy I did.

I live in and prefer Spring (North of 1960, West of 45 area). I lived in Kingwood a long time ago and it is beautiful but the surrounding areas are not. The Woodlands is very nice but congested and someone said if you live in Spring, you will be going to The Woodlands alot. I find that not to be true. I go to The Woodlands to go to the mall, it is the nicest mall anywhere. It is not that far, otherwise we have everything out here, shopping centers, parks, golf courses, library, churches of all denominations, etc.
The schools are great (klein ISD NOT Spring ISD) , my kids have been happy here. There is a mix of housing here, from new construction to older established homes.
Of course, everyone has different preferences, so I would like to add that all 3 area you are choosong between are nice areas so you won't go wrong no matter what you pick. I would stress that if you choose Spring, be sure to be in the Klein ISD, not Spring ISD. Tomball is also right next door, so you could even look there, without going too far out. I would suggest zip codes 77379, 77375.

The surrounding areas of The woodlands really aren't that different than Kingwood. Both have their more 'rustic' down home areas with some trailer park ambiance. Both also have very nice surrounding areas. Kingwood is closer to downtown and you get more home for the $$$. The Woodlands has better shopping (though Kingwood is improving with the brand new waterfront Kings Harbor, pedestrian friendly mixed used, urban styled development on the shores of Lake Houston. Both Kingwood and the Woodlands are drop dead beautiful.

I have lived in Wimbledon Subdivision at Cypresswood and Stuebner Airline in Klein High School area for 16 years. It is a very safe area and school is tops. Its located near fabulous library, civic center, museum and best of all- the sheriff's departments. There is very little crime..the cops are in and around the neighborhood all the time, patrolling or just cruising through on their way to their home or next station. Also a brand new shopping center is being build 4 miles down the road...new restaurants, Central Market H.E.B., Cheesecake Factory and I have heard a Nordstroms. We are very happy with this area. You can check out the neighborhoods on Houston Real Estate - Houston Homes, Houston Home Value and Houston Relocation
the houston area realtors site.

Wimbledon and Memorial Northwest are nice, also in the same area is Champion Forest, Champion Springs(newer homes),Spring Creek FOrest, Spring Creek Oaks...I highly recommend Klein Schools..This is a great area to live in, Schools, Parks, shopping, restaraunts, library..as Jan said earlier.
We even have what is called "Friday night Live" for kids, 3rd-8th grade where the kids are chaperoned at a local church(Community center) on Friday nights and they have dances, and games, and pizza and meet up with their friends from 7-11 pm for 9.00 plus food. It is advertised through the schools (It has nothing to do with church, it is just held there)and alot of kids go regularly.

Default Spring over Kingwood

We just bought a house in zip cod 77379 in Spring and we are very excited to move there. I went to kingwood for houses. It looks a lot like The Woodlands but older. It seemed dark and boring. The Woodlands is a bit stuffy. I chose Spring because of the community and schools. I knew Texans were warm and nice but really the people I met on my trip to buy my house in the Spring Creek Forest, wow! I was very impressed. Big change from CT. Good luck!

Default Spring

I live in Spring, and I would highly recommend the area that Jan is talking about. Unfortunately, I live on the east side of I-45, and you should definitely not buy here. Spring ISD's schools have gone way down, and there's a lot of trouble over here. But the area Jan mentioned and the Champion's area, in my opinion, have both the Woodlands and Kingwood beat. Good luck to you, and I hope you enjoy your new home.
