I'll bet half of it's from the Katrina refugees that didn't go back.

I wonder if you realize how many people die in horrible, horrible car accidents after being smashed and lacerated to death by twisted metal and shards of glass on all of those highways you are driving on. Are you going to stop using them because that happens?

And believe me, it happens all the time, every single day.

Well in 2007 Houston was not even one of first 20
Safest and Most Dangerous U.S. Cities, 2007 — Infoplease.com

It didn't make the first 15 in 2007 either

In Pictures: America's Most Dangerous Cities - No. 1 Detroit, Mich. - Forbes.com

or here:

Top 10 Most Dangerous Cities in the United States, Page 2 of 2 - Associated Content - associatedcontent.com

not here either

America's Most Violent Cities Dangerous Crime city per capita murder rape robbery Detroit Washington New Orleans Black Hispanic immigration worst safest poor poverty hate dirty cleanest white best murderous rankings burglary wanted | Midwest Free Pre

I wonder where you got your "news" from, BJ22 ...

If it was just the number of crimes - that would make sense, as that is where we lie in the population of cities.

Ah, and here it is tabulated per capita - a different story.

The problem is that Houston was ranked ahead of Chicago, NYC and LA in terms of violent crime!

They did a study on the "metropolitan" areas on yahoo either this year or last year. I'll try to find it.

But the study was talking about "Metropolitan" areas, not just the city limits themselves.

Here is the study I was talking about.

Forbes examined the top metropolitan areas in four categories and Houston was pretty bad when it came to violent crime, work related fatalities and natural disasters.

Here is the study: Full List: America's Safest Cities - Forbes.com

According to the study, Houston's metropolitan areas were 8th worst in the country in terms of violent crime.

The gas station is 2.0 miles from where I live. I knew I was in a not so godo neighborhood but now I'll be extra careful.
