I'll bet half of it's from the Katrina refugees that didn't go back.

I wonder if you realize how many people die in horrible, horrible car accidents after being smashed and lacerated to death by twisted metal and shards of glass on all of those highways you are driving on. Are you going to stop using them because that happens?
And believe me, it happens all the time, every single day.

If it was just the number of crimes - that would make sense, as that is where we lie in the population of cities.

The problem is that Houston was ranked ahead of Chicago, NYC and LA in terms of violent crime!

But the study was talking about "Metropolitan" areas, not just the city limits themselves.

Here is the study I was talking about.
Forbes examined the top metropolitan areas in four categories and Houston was pretty bad when it came to violent crime, work related fatalities and natural disasters.
Here is the study: Full List: America's Safest Cities - Forbes.com
According to the study, Houston's metropolitan areas were 8th worst in the country in terms of violent crime.

The gas station is 2.0 miles from where I live. I knew I was in a not so godo neighborhood but now I'll be extra careful.
