No- Because I don't think Houston would want others building theme parks all around the city, that will take the focus away from many of it's other tourist sectors, like Galveston, Kemah, Uptown, etc etc.
Why not? I wouldn't mind maybe two more theme parks in the Houston area. That's another industry to add to the Houston economy, and would probably only help Galveston and Kemah. Why? More people would be coming to the Houston area, therefore, more opportunity for Galveston and Kemah to get more business from tourists.

Schlitterbahn Galveston- I think this was a fail from Schlitterbahn, it isn't that impressive, although it does give you something to do, it's not worth driving to, although it isn't very far. lol

Splashtown- That was closed down the year after Astroworld and Waterworld. And good riddance. That place was a total fail.
Uh....Splashtown definitely isn't closed down. It's actually going pretty strong.

To me, Schlitterbahn Galveston was very smart. Added another attraction to the island, and that place is CROWDED!

Wait, if Splashtown didn't close down then.... I think I'm thinking about Adventure Bay, near funplex, because they tore that down as soon as Astroworld and Waterworld came down.

Splashtown is up north in Spring, Tx and it's still open. I prefer Schlitterbahn Galveston over it, but Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels is still the BEST!

Yeah, but it's been a while since Houston's had a theme park to begin with, I think Astroworld came down in 2005, I think if they do build another park after EQA it'll be a few years later. So that way they'll know that investing in one will be a surplus and not a deficit, based off the tourism EQA will get, it'll give them something to base their judgments off of.
Either that, or they'll really go like "we can out due dinoland and make something a lot better that'll surely do better".

So then is EQA actually being built? Like I said, I haven't driven out to see for myself (mainly b/c I live inside the loop). Please tell me it is. If it is, I just might do a little dance.

Last I checked, yes it is. This is massive for Houston, they're not going to deny this project from being built. The max they can do is delay it a bit, and I don't care if they do, as long as they get this thing built like they promised!

They held a meeting for the public and the developers/financiers for the project last December in 2009, and they got so many turnouts that they actually had to tell people to go home, they didn't expect even a third of the turnouts as they got. They raised a pretty hefty amount too, not nearly enough to help pay for building, but enough to show these people that the public cares about this project and that it should be a go. So the project is officially a go, but with some delays! (Which is expected lol)

I'm not at all surprised that they had a massive turnout. I grew up here going to AW on a regular basis, and have been really disappointed that for my kids to experience something similar, I have to drive to SA. I think that the support for a park like this (and possibly others, should they come) would be there from residents who, like me, really miss having a park like this that is close enough for a day trip.

And those of you that have been here as long as I have will also remember that multiple theme parks would not be a first....there was a Beusch Gardens over near the Bud brewery on the East side a few decades ago...

It's been a while because it takes time to build these things. The Earthquest idea came the year after Astroworld closed down. Definitely didn't take a long time for the concept to come up. We're just waiting on financing and construction to start soon.

No that's not what I meant, because we've been without a theme park for nearly half a decade, it could also be possible that Houstonians have forgotten the exact amount of tourism that came from Astroworld.

I completely agree with what you're saying, but yes 5 years without a theme park has made changes, rapid population growth, and migration, Houston has not felt what it's like to have a theme park, so the definite faith in tourism might be something they worry about the first year or so. After that they will know where Houston is headed as far as theme parks go.
