My family is considering relocating to Houston Tx... We have been in Jacksonville Florida our entire lives and recently visited and loved it- My husband currently works as a CNC Machinist and also has a military background. Wondering what the job market looks like in Houston..... we also have 3 children (ages 6,8 and 10)

I can't speak for the whole city, or all industries, but I do know that our lathe operators are paid well because it seems to be hard to find and keep good ones. If he can also write the programs, he's even more valuable. Please don't just go on my word, though, look through some of the want ads and maybe talk to recruiters/head-hunters too.

Basic manual machinists are a dime a dozen, and paid accordingly. If he has significant CNC experience, he would always be able to find a strong paying job in Houston.

The oilfield market is so demanding in houston and that means they need machinist to make these parts. I worked in a machine shop for a few months but only as a matierial handler but in talking to the guys there they always told me that they have never wanted for a job. There has always been one avaliable. NOV has a massive machine shop in Houston and that is one of the oilfield leading companys. You may try with them they pay pretty well.
