Hi all,
We will be in Houston - Clear Lake area next week to check out the area. Please provide suggestions of what we should be doing. What are the things that we should be checking out so that we can get a good understanding about what to live day-to-day there? Potential employement near by corner of Bay Area Blvd and Space Center Blvd.

I have 3 1/2 year old and 9 month old, and my parents might be coming with us (they're in their 70s) so I'm thinking aobut checking out the following:
- Daycare and elementary school
- Pediatric clinic & hospitals
- Clinic and Hospital care for my parent: My das has COPD and need a lung specialist.
- Library and Park system
- Is there a supermarket/Grocery store near by?
- Is there a Target/Walmart/Costco near by?
- Dance school, music school and swiming class near by? Any good names?

I'd appreciate if you can provide name and contact information about these places or any other tips that you might have
If things work out, we plan to come back and plan to visit the beach, museum district, etc.. at the later trip.

Plenty of daycares and elementary schools around.

Home - Clear Lake Medical Center

Clear Lake City-County Freeman Branch Library | Harris County Public Library

Parks: Bay Area (also has a dog park), Clear Lake, Walter Hall, Challenger 7, Randolph, & Sylvan Rodriguez come to mind but I know there are more, and each neighborhood usually has their own playground as well.

Grocery stores are on every other major intersection. Target is near West Bay Area/45 across from the mall. Wal-Mart is on El Dorado & 45. There are also those stores near Almeda Mall and in Dickinson.

Tourist traps in the area are Space Center Houston and Kemah Boardwalk, somewhat congested but worth checking out at least once.

There's a handful of pretty good restaurants near Bay Area/ Space Center, always busy at lunchtime.

tstone covers this pretty well, but I will throw out a few others:

Daycare and elementary school

Pretty much every neighborhood seems to have an elementary school. Many are exemplary, some are recognized. There's lots of daycares around, but we haven't used one yet.

Library and Park system

The library is Freeman Library. It's solid with lots of programs. This is actually where we first met people in town.

I will also throw out Armand Bayou as a nearby park. It's a nature center with hiking trails and is a very nice resource to have close by.

Dance school, music school and swiming class near by? Any good names?

My daughters go to Premier Dance Academy. It's right by where you would work, but I don't have a clue how to judge dance schools. My daughters have had private swim lessons, but this last year the older one went to the YMCA.

Two hospitals in CL - Clear Lake Regional Medical Center, Christus St. Johns and a very large UTMB specialty Clinic in League City (in the Clear Lake area). Bay area ballet and theatre for dance schools. Museum district in Houston is where main museums are but in the Clear Lake area - see TAACCL The arts alliance of Clear Lake and the new Longhorn museum. Nature park Armand Bayou - lots of kids activities. Also Ned and Fay Dudney Nature Park - really just nature trails. Armand Bayou Hike and Bike trail is nice. CCISD is the school district (Clear Creek ISD) and is highly rated. Go into League City as well and check out the old central part - beautiful little park called Helen's Gardens. Shopping mall is Baybrook Mall and lots of nice strip center stores along the freeway at 646.
