Arrow Tentative move to Houston

Hi all,

I've been reading posts for a while and I finally decided to make my own account;

I'm in the middle of negotiations with a company in Houston for a job. This would be located at Houston Downtown area.

What would be a good/safe place to live for a single guy? I'm renting so an apartment would be good, no need for a house.

I could have 30-45 mins commute timers.

Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot for your input!

There are some great places to live in Houston. Mid-Town, The Heights or the Galleria area are a few.

I could help you with more data as well...

Hey! thanks for the fast response.

Do you know any links where I can find a list of apartments or a recap of those areas? not sure if that's the data you mention.

Regards,

What is your budget for rent? That will also effect where you live.

Hey, thanks for your responses;

As of now, I don't know my exact budget since the company has not made an official offer yet; I would think anything below $1000 would be good.

I guess everything will be a bit more accurate after I know how much I can spend monthly for rent, but for now I think that up to $1000 is a reasonable price.

Thanks!,

Check har.com, generally I would suggest 77006, 77019, 77007 (montrose, midtown, washington ave area) but it all depends on what you're looking for (besides safety). I consider all of the above zip codes safe, assuming a reasonable amount of caution, same with any city.

Edited to add: also check craigslist, that might be better for looking for apartments.

Midtown Houston lists some of the apt. complex. The Calais is nice and there are several others.

Downtown Houston

There are some great apts. on Kirby Drive near the intersection of Westheimer/Kirby. You might also look in the Rice Village area.

don't live too far out. 30-45 minute commute can easily translate into hours of traffic on bad day (or long weekend). I agree with those above...Heights or montrose may be a good area for you. Also...good nightlife and restaurants around.
