Default Move From Austin TX To Kingswood Houston, Should I?

So, I'm 24, graduated from college, and bi-racial (african american). I have been asking people on the forum rather I should move from austin to Houston cause there are not a lot of opportunities for blacks in austin. One of my friends suggested I move to an area called Kingswood which is 15 minutes from Houston's downtown area. Can anyone suggest safe suburbs around the Houston area that is affordable (under $700 month/one bedroom). I'm really looking to move in the next 1-2 weeks and I work in the healthcare profession (in nursing home, assisted living settings). Can anyone suggest any apartments? And I won't be having my car, so what bus lines run out there? Thank you in advance.

If you are 24 and don't have a car, you don't want to move to Kingwood. I live in Kingwood and love it, but it is all families. The social life for a young single person is not very good. The only bus service is to downtown on Monday through Friday.

Think about Kingwood after you settle down and have a family.

Thanks for your comment, i should have mentioned that I soon as I move, I will have a car. I don't mind it being mostly families, as that means more safety and better neighborhoods. I'm also not worried about the social scene, as I can just head out to Houston since its only 15 minutes from there. If the bus does run out to downtown, thats perfect too, as I wouldn't mind working downtown either. I just wanted to know if Kingwood was very safe and the overall scenery and some suggested apartments for one bedrooms under $700.

Sent you a PM. Also note that downtown is 35 minutes from Kingwood not 15.

If you have a choice, stay in Austin.

It might be a 15 minute commute if you have your own helicopter. For the rest of us, it's about 40 minutes to downtown.

Also, I don't understand why there "Aren't a lot of opportunities for blacks in Austin"... Are you sure you don't mean there aren't a lot of opportunities for you? I'm not trying to be rude, but if you bring the 'everyone is out to keep me down' mentality here, you're not going to be any more successful than you are where you're at.

I was gonna say, 15 minutes? Not no but hell no. It takes 15 minutes just to get out of the back sections of Kingwood & get to the freeway.

Really it is best to secure employment prior to a move and then find housing with a reasonable commute to your new job ESPECIALLY in a city as spread out as Houston. Kingwood is a safe community but it probably isn't going to be your best bet...reasonably safe areas can be found closer in that would seem much more desirable for a 24 y.o. I have a coworker (single female) who lives in the Galleria area for under $700 a month. Nothing fancy about her place but there is MUCH MORE to do in that area. Look around and see what YOU are comfortable with and get a feel for the city. Honestly...If I were in your position Kingwood wouldn't even be on the radar.

Best of luck to you.

Kingwood is soo not close to downtown!! And if we had a choice we would pick Austin over Houston in a heartbeat.
