Default Nursing student needs safe apartment

I will be a nursing student starting August 2007 in the medical center. I have searched craigslist, backpage, greatlandlords, apartments.com...you name I've searched it. I thought I had a list of places I could afford and might feel safe but either the landlord won't return messages or the apartmentsratings.com/crime rate makes me feel really uneasy. I just want a decent affordable place that I will feel safe. I'm starting to get the feeling that for any amount of good maintenance/safety I need to have $800/month - which I don't have. Garage apartment, small buildings, condo rental, or complex - ANY leads are much appreciated!

Also I've found a few rentals in One Montreal Place Condos listed on hars. Does anyone know anything about that area?

Not familiar with Montreal Place so I pulled it up on Google Maps and results were inconclusive....is this at or near Holly Hall and Cambridge near Reliant Park?

I live not too far from there and the Med Center...my apartment is ok, affordable and reasonably safe...I go out at 2am to do laundry or whatever. You have a lot of options nearby for $800 - for that much you should find what you're looking for.

There are some nice looking apartments in the South Main/Braeswood/Kirby area but I don't know much about specifics....wherever you are, be aware and take care of your property and you will be all right.

I lived in the Montrose and Rice Village area and can tell you that a lot of the apartments in small complexes or 4 plexes are not advertised except with a sign in the front. My advise would be to take a trip and drive up and down alot of the streets in those areas. You'll find what you need that way.
