Hugo's higher end Mexican/S. American - Westheimer in Montrose

Taco A-Go-Go for cheap breakfast tacos - Downtown/Midtown

Spanish Flowers for greasy spoon tex mex - Heights area

I tend to not venture out to discover more local mexican places as I have a sensitive stomach =(

the taco truck parked in front of West Alabama Ice House is darn good too. It is on West Alabama in the Museum District/Montrose area.

Go to Airline Farmer's Market for local ingredients and mexican seasonings. also a lot of taco trucks and shops around there for fooooooood

I'm a BIG fan of Pappasito's (owned by a Greek family -Pappas - go figure!)

Isn't/wasn't there a place called Mama Ninfa's?

Not a big fan of Mexican food per se, but I love New Mexico's cusiine. So I'm a major fan of Santa Fe Flats, located on 249 between Louetta and Jones Rd. They're family owned and operated by native New Mexicans.

Outstanding red chile posole, stacked enchiladas ...you have try a chicken green chili one on blue corn tortillas...and they just added stuffed sopaillas to the menu. They also have more Mexicany- things that folks here are more familiar with too, but the chile is what makes any dish. Try some green on a burger or chicken fried steak, or some red on a tamale.

They have live music several nights week, a nice patio and a sand area for the kiddos.

If you want to check them out line first, note that they are a .net, not a .com

- Taqueria Del Sol, 45 @ Broadway.
- Another vote for Lopez, 59 @ Wilcrest.

For take-outs:
- Vic's Taco in Clear Lake, 3 @ Pineloch inside the Chevron for "truck" style tacos, tortas, etc.
- Los Toritos tamales in Pasadena, Country Rd @ Fairmont.

^^ Grab plenty of red & green sauces at those two places.

I got an ad for Taco Cabana ''Street Tacos'' and am curious how they compare. (They probably don't come close.)

I'm also still trying to find an excellent Monterrey-style place-- you can get decent stuff deep into the southeast side, but I've had better in Arlington, TX.

Someone mentioned Mama Ninfas. I've seen that around 45/Airport but don't know what the difference is between that and the chains. But there's the original Ninfas on Navigation, separate from the chains which is pretty good, if slightly overrated.

You want to compare taco cabana to "street food", hit up that green taco bus on Bellfort right off 45.
