check this out before buying a house in cinco. I was surprised there are more than 30 offenders and some of them at high risk levels.

One of them close to my house. oh no!

Considering that just about anything gets you put on a sex offender list these
days I doubt you can find a neighborhood without any.

No doubt about that... you get people on there for things like peeing on the side of the road. Which is why you should always click through the dots in your area to find the reason why they have to register... I clicked on 3 from the above link and they were all forms of sexual indecency with children age 10, 14 and 15.

Bottom line is EVERY neighborhood has sex offenders... unfortunately it's a large group of our society. You have to be extra vigilant as a parent... especially when it comes to leaving your kids alone with anyone. A sex offender is many times more likely to be a family member or a close acquaintance than a stranger.

Worry about the perverts who aren't on the list.

Why? There are about 45 living in the same zips as The Woodlands.

Agree with chris_ut - look to see the crime before going into panics. You can be a 18 yr old boy with a 17 yr old girlfriend - and then her mother gets mad at you. This is a disservice not only to the poor guy now tagged, but to the community as a whole. Takes the full attention off the real child molesters.

I agree with LostInHouston - sex offenders live everywhere. You need to click on each one and read when it occurred and who was involved. Some sex offenders are on the list since the list was created. Never had any arrest after that. Some, did just a stupid thing with a 17 y.o. girl, like kissing her in the car. They maybe even married that "victim" later. So there are high, moderate and low risk sex offenders. Those that molested a young child, especially recently are high risk.
Since the meaning of ‘sexual act’ or sexual conduct is not defined, nor is any other statutory definition referenced the whole policy is very controversial, and in my opinion should be re-evaluated.

Default Yes, check the reasons...

As a few have already mentioned, check to see what the crime was... I have to examples to give of real things that happened to people I knew, not friends, but neighbors.

One, a guy was talked about as being a pervert, he was on the list of sex offenders. It turns out he was doing what others have mentioned, having sexual relations with a minor. What not everyone knew was that they had two children together, and were married at the time the people were gossiping about them.

The other example was truly ugly, one guy down the street from me was convicted and sent to prison because he was sexually abusing/having sex with his two teen age daughters. I was always too busy at work to ever associate with this guy, but my next door neighbors knew him and one even said after the arrest that they still trusted their own daughter to be near him. He's in prison now, he got like like a 39 year prison sentence.

Anyway, there are true perverts out there amongst everyone, but you really need to do more dilligence than just see dots on a page.

If given the choice, I'd rather have access to the names of all the people in my neighborhood who have had DWI's as opposed to sex offenders. I bet there are three times as many such people in any given neighborhood than sex offenders. As hideous as sex offenders are, I feel it's a lot easier to protect my daughter from them as opposed to some loaded idiot driving 40 miles an hour down our street.
