My husband and I are relocating to Houston. He will be working in the Energy corridor. We have no children, are in our thirties and would like to live in an area with good recreation (bike trails etc) and activity. We would like to rent or buy a house in the 200K range that would be within 20 minutes for a commute to my husband's job, in a safe neighborhood. What neighborhoods would you recommend?

Ashford Forest, Ashford Village, Ashford South, April Village, Country Village, Briar Hills, Lakeside Forest, Lakeside Estates, and Village West for that price range. Briar Hills backs up to Terry Hershy Park, but the floorplans are sometimes odd.

Add "Southbriar" and "Shadowbriar" to that list, they're part of Ashford Village and back up to Terry Hershey Park. Same price range. Southbriar is indistinguishable from Ashford Village; Shadowbriar is newer (90's) but same price range, same basic area.

If he is working in the energy corridor then you should move to Katy, Cinco Ranch or one of the communities north of I-10 over by Fry Road or something like that. That will easily put you within a 20 minute commute. They have big lots, nice houses, low taxes, good schools and have very affordable prices. If I had a job over there, I would buy in that area.

That part of town is the very comfortable suburban lifestyle with brand new shopping centers and everything else being nice and convenient. BUT, I-10 was completed a few years ago it offers an easy route in to town (1/2 hour or so in non-rush hour traffic) so you can go in-town for nightlife and museums and things like that on the weekends.

Just stay close to I-10. That is s the secret to a convenient life-style.

Houston Townhomes | Houston Luxury Apartment & Townhome Rental at The Village on Memorial in Houston, Texas

Also, the village on memorial has really nice townhomes for rent. It is a rental community of townhomes which is very unusual and it is smack dab in the middle of the energy corridor.

If you are renting though and you want access to running trails, maybe look for rentals near the memorial park running trail. That is in-town but the commute out to the energy corridor is against traffic so it is only about 1/2 an hour out but maybe 45 minutes in depending on traffic.

Default Found one!

I think we have settled on a rental off Fry Rd. in Katy. Hopefully all will go through with the lease agreement! Thanks for the help!
