I would normally be telling you all about how fabulous Sugar Land is for families, but for acreage I don't think there's much left. Richmond/Rosenberg is just a few minutes further out on US 59 and once the construction is done the commute into Houston shouldn't be too bad.
You might find something good around the Champions Forest area. I think there's still some undeveloped land out that way and someone else posting recently was saying the house costs were incredibly low for a lot of house. Check out HAR.com. Hope something here helps you and good luck! |

On the other side of Rosenberg is Needville to the south - lots of open space down there - and more west and north around places like East Bernard, Wallis, Simonton etc. Big-city covenience and amenities are still a reasonable drive away and I think much of those areas (not Richmond and Rosenberg proper - they're growing up and out too) will retain a "country" feel for a good while.
Racial attitudes in Houston and its immediate outskirts are more progressive than much of the rest of the "South." I can't imagine you having too many problems looking at places like where we've mentioned. Just don't head out toward the east, toward Beaumont, Vidor etc. It's slowly getting better, but by and large it's still 1964 over there. My apologies to those Golden Triangle residents who made the transition to the 21st century with the rest of us. |

Try Montgomery County. There are home out there on 1-2 acres. Subdivisions that are managed but you are far away from your neighbor. This area is northwest of the Woodlands. Try to stay south of Conroe. This message is coming from a BF. We considered moving to the Magnolia area but wanted to be closer to work. When you check out har.com select magnolia subdivisions. Hope this helps and good luck on your move.

Not knowing how much of a commute you are willing to accept, I might suggest taking a look at Bellville. You certainly could find acreage there and if you work on the west or north side of town it might be a doable commute. Here is a source for looking at the Bellville schools as I am pretty sure this would be a big concern for you. Bellville Schools
Bellville has a very "country" feel to it but you should be able to find the amenities necessary to raise your family while still being a pretty easy commute back into Houston. |

I live in Hockley and think you and your family would fit right into our community. Waller school district is good....and growing. Eventhough the drive into Houston can be hectic...it is well worth the drive to come home to peace and quiet. I work in the Medical Center area and the drive is a good solid hour at 6am. Same with the drive home. We are in the "country" with all of the city amenities within 8 miles. Can't beat that!!

Coming from an African American female thats originally from the country... Hockley would be a good choice, but with the way the 290 area keeps expanding, Hockley may not be country for long.. Have you looked at the 288/Hwy6 area? There is land to spread out there and its still close to the Pearland or MoCity areas for shopping etc... Good luck w/ your search.
