We're looking for a great, casual, non-denominational Christian church in Katy. Preferably Old Katy, but south of the interstate isn't out of the question. Not into the speaking in tongues, rolling on the floor kind of services; no offense to those who do.
Any ideas?

Good luck! I have not seen any non denominational churches out here but we live on the NE side.

Basically, it seems like you want a good family environment, but without the religion doing permanent pyschological harm to your children. That's probably a smart move.

Exactly. The problem is I was raised going to a Presbyterian church with my mother, Southern Baptist with my father. My husband is Catholic. We just want a church that believes in God and the Bible without all the mumbo-jumbo, our religion is better than yours kind of influences that seem to abound these days.

I wish you luck. Most religious groups do fall into the mumbo-jumbo category. Perhaps you could find your kids a good scout troop or sports leagues to play in that offer the family friendly atmosphere that you want. This is a tough situation.

Just because you are not religious doesn't mean you should assume that all religion does psychological harm to children .... that is as ludicrous as someone saying those are are non-religious are satanists and do society harm ..... the op was simply asking for a non-denominational church and there seem to be a lot of those springing up everywhere - some of those surprisingly are part of other organized religions in the big picture but have moved toward a non-denominational, come as you are type atmosphere because I think they are realizing that people are seeking that kind of environment vs. being tied to this denomination is right and that one is wrong. I don't live in the Katy area so I am not familiar with any on that side of town. I know there is a big one in the Woodlands - a friend got married there. There is a huge one on the Gulf frwy where they hold services for fallen firefighters and hpd officers there - I guess because it is large enough to accommodate the crowds. Pearland and Friendswood has one called New Hope. My suggestion, if you don't find any responses on this forum, would be to google Non-Denominational in Katy and then visit each of them on Sundays until you find the one that meets the needs of you and your family and provides the environment you are seeking.

I did not say that all religion does harm to children. I said "most". Also, your comparison is invalid. Non-religious people do not believe in supernatural beings that control our fate whereas both of the groups you mentioned above do believe in the supernatural. HOWEVER, the point of my post was to support the OP in trying to find a church that did not fall into the "most" category. Also, I was supporting finding non-religious family activities since it seems like that is what the OP is looking for.

Technically they are "denominational" but Grace Fellowship is an awesome church on Mason Road in the Cinco Ranch area. At least give them a visit and see what you think. The pastor is a great communicator - it is definitely "mainstream" and not "wacky" and a great casual non-threatening environment.

Grace Fellowship UMC | Welcome!

Christmas Eve would be a great time to check them out!
