Liberty Mutual seems to have best pricing. Hard to tell you what to expect without knowing more details on the house. Best to get 3 quotes as with anything.

I'd call as many companies as you can think of. I ended up with 5 or 6 quotes, and there was honestly about a $2,000 difference between the cheapest and the most expensive -- all for very similar policies.

Like Chris, I also ended up with Liberty Mutual, but the cheapest for you might be someone totally different.

Liberty Mutual is extemely competitive for the quality of the policy, my agent provides excellent customer service as well. I can email you a name if you like.

With all insurance quotes on homes, ask if they do car insurance and if they give a discount for having both - most do.

For car insurance, it differs greatly b/w companies specific to your car and situation. I'd shop every 3 yrs and I find whereas company A used to be 30% more expensive than B 3 yrs ago, they are now much cheaper. Each company has a formula to determine the rate and whereas one company may put more favor on something like a particular model of car, others may give more discount on level of education or credit score, etc. Hence, good to shop. I've gone back and forth between 3 companies over the years and it seems everytime I shop, the rates rank order would change. And i'm talking about >15% savings, not chump change.

Can you name a few home insurance and car insurance companies for me to check. I'm not familiar with insurance companies.
Also, I currently have a California driver license. To get a Texas driver's license, do I need to take a written and/or driving test?

I am pretty sure you just take the written test.

On insurance, my old stand-bys are John Kafi with AIS

My Liberty Mutual guy moved and I don't have the number. I would contact the poster jaymanbikes for their person. It's a good company.

There is a guy a client referred that has gven out some great quotes:
David Jackson
Moore Insurance
713-864-6600
I don't know him, but the quotes have been really good.
