I also love it when there is no one else on the road and they speed up to get five feet behind you before switching lanes. Those individuals do get treated with the middle finger.

I HATE that. I've never seen it done so much as it's done here in the Houston area.

Or when drivers won't let you in but move over into the lane you just left the minute you get over. WTH?

And yes - all those offensive drivers are the ones who make the gestures.

That's the one I was forgetting. They always try to speed up to pass you when you are trying to change lanes instead of just briefly slowing down and going behind you.

Still sticking with my theory that they are losers who try and make up for it behind the wheel.

Try to picture them going home and the dog kicks them! It helps.

Chad - there's a word that should be in the Houston Dictionary.

Going chad - to react in an extremely aggressiver manner, out of proportion to the situation.

I'm not a fan of tailgaters either, but common sense tells me to adjust the distance between you and the car in front of you, in case you get into that situation. From what you describe, you're doing exactly what you came here to complain about. Old-skool drivers ed: 40 mph = 4 car lengths? My car is around 17' long. You do the math.
